Hi everyone!

I am happy to present my social media page for the singer I have chosen: Noah Kahan. The social media of an artist is a crucial channel to communicating important news to fans- such as the release of a new album- especially amongst teenagers. That is why I have been careful with the posts and created a marketing campaign for my artist through the careful planning of social media posts.

Here, I will explain the types of posts I have used and their effect.

Hope you enjoy this post!

xx Natalia

Creating the Social Media Page:

Here are the things I have kept in mind throughout:

  1. Having a variety of posts (with different outfits, in different settings, but with a common theme)

  2. Having extra posts without the artist (tour, merchandising, etc.)

  3. Creating a sense of expectation for the new album/music video

  4. Portraying the artist as close to his fans- in a more natural light

  5. Creating extra content to further engage the fans with the artist and the product.

#1- Having a Variety of Posts:

Having enough material to have a varied feed with new content for the fans was important to me. That is why, I filmed with my actor in various settings and with several outfits. (Of course, due to the nature of the project and the limited time I had to film with him, this variety is portrayed on a limited scale).

I have used pictures of a blue-pink hue, with a leaves backdrop, a graffiti backdrop and in front of the mirror. I have also used pictures of the post-its in a more artistic way and of my actress to provide links to the music video, as well as keeping the general colourful palette.

Of course, the rest of the posts which are not just pictures contribute to that sense of variety and varied content that makes the fans feel they are getting new content that keeps feeding their interest.

#2- Extra Posts (not just pictures of the artist)

Extra content contributes to making the page feel realistic, as artists usually have images of their tour or of any merchandising they are releasing. That is why I made specific content for both occasions:

I thought it was cool to have a small signature clipart of the artist to use in both merch and as a distinctive sign of the tour. Including an oil paint effect was another way of following the theme (also present in the digipak) of editing the images of the singer as drawings or with painted effects. I edited this through photoshop, as well as some colour-grading, and I think it looks good!

The merchandising in different colours and the tour around Spain are just pieces of extra content that I made easily but they add so much more personality and authenticity to the social media campaign. The tour is also mentioned in the interview (see below), and so there are links throughout.

#3- Creating a Sense of Expectation:

Part of a campaign is to create a sense of thrill and expectation for the new product, which I did with different methods, such as a highlight of "News about the album" and another called "False Confidence", as well as another one called "Updates" (there is a separate one for the merchandising).

In the highlight stories I re-posted posts I had just published, posted special content (for example, about the filming day) or announced when I posted something on the blog.

I also created these three short videos to post on a timeline and raise expectation about the upcoming album. The three are rolling shots upwards, but you only see the face of the artist until the last one, which creates a sense of anticipation, and also adds a link between the three.

it is also important to note how I have used the same font as in the digipak and merchandising, which links both of them. The second font used in the merchandising (the handwritten one) is also used in the music video for further link and branding.

#4- Portraying the artist as close to his fans:

I think Noah Kahan as an artist is more informal than other singers such as Ariana Grande, and I also wanted to convey that with a couple of posts and stories. Therefore, I made this special BTS post with the caption: "when the producer tells you to lie down on the mat and throw some post-its in the air... you just don't argue :)"

I also told my actor to record himself as the BTS of the shoot, addressing his fans. I then turned this into a reel and added subtitles for the purpose of this project, and posted it on the updates highlight story:

Finally, I posted today this picture of my artist behind the scenes of the shoot with a long caption to address his fans confidentially:

#5- Bonus Engaging Content:

Going the extra mile means creating meaningful extra content to connect with the fans and to appeal to the music video. That is why I made a few extra videos and posts to appeal to my target audience and to make explicit links to the music video:

This first video introduces the actress for the music video, therefore making an obvious link between the social media page and the music video, acknowledging the genre of the music video as narrative and indicating the fact that although the song is his, the artist is not present in the music video. Therefore, his fans can understand this and be prepared for when it comes out.

I filmed this interview with a different outfit to make it separate to the photoshoot of the other content. Answering the most common questions is a way to directly appeal to the fans, and hence, just as in the previous section, this is a way of directly appealing to his audience.

Again, I added subtitles for the purpose of this project, and asked a couple of specific questions about the music video and album (as well as the tour, which links to then the release of the tour posts) to make this video also a piece of marketing.

Finally, as a further link to the music video, I have created this clip which links the artist to his song and the music video by filming the same shot which takes place in an important part of the music video- the denouement where the character decides to finally get rid of her "false confidence" and just be herself.

By filming the same cool 360º shot and adding a direct address to the audience with the caption "who did it better?", I am linking the artist to the actress and the music video, appealing to the audience and promoting the upcoming product all in one. I thought it was a great idea to put together in such as small but meaningful clip :)

Overall,

Overall, I have designed this social media page to the best of my ability, taking into account the 5 aspects mentioned as well as trying to make links between the music video, the digipak and the social media page as one brand identity for the artist and his art.

It has been an amazing experience and I have enjoyed the strategic creative planning, although it was challenging to post gradually (over a condensed time span) and organise everything at first- I was most nervous about the social media page but I am happily satisfied with the result.
