Hi everyone!
In this post, I will be looking at two music video theories, that of Andrew Goodwin about the codes and conventions of every music video, and that of Laura Mulvey, about the Male Gaze and "virgin-whore dichotomy".
As this is quite a dense topic, I have made a video on Canva (later edited with Premiere Pro to add some music) to explain these two therories. At the end, I have included two case studies which are 11 years apart to look at the evolution of music videos and their characteristics, with reference to these two theories.
I hope you enjoy this post!
xx Natalia

Next Steps:
I am now aware of how important it is to keep the cuts in the music video to the rhythm of the beat, as well as how mise-en-scène can create such a meaningful message to back the lyrics. My music video will also have a voyeuristic perspective as my audience will witness the change in the music video character as the song False Confidence indicates how you should not pretend to be someone you are not.
Stay tuned to follow the rest of the process!
