Hi everyone!

At first, I wasn't planning on doing a specific post on costumes, but I have realised they are worth analysing especially after the photoshoot for the digipak and all the different costumes used for that. I have already analysed the most important piece of makeup but I will also run through it as an overview.

Hope you enjoy this post!

Costumes for the Music Video

In terms of the costumes for the music video, as I said in the mise-en-scène analysis, I was looking for a colourful aesthetic that would create a light mood but also look artificial and overly bright- thus creating the sense of "false confidence".

Outfit 1- Bight fuchsia top with black jeans, a beige jacket and a bright emerald bag.

Outfit 2- Light pink cropped sleeveless jacket, white top and blue jeans

Outfit 3- Dark blue jeans and cropped bright yellow and brown cardigan

Outfit 4- Grey cropped jacket and black jeans (not bright, but going with the "bored" persona)

Outfit 5- Emerald green short dress

All the costumes apart from the one for the "bored" outfit are bright and look either very optimistic (like the yellow cardigan and fuchsia top) or clean-cut (like the baby pink sleeveless jacket and the emerald green dress). Therefore, the mise-en-scène is consistent throughout and matches with the mood of the song as well as helps to convey meaning :)

Costumes for the Digipak and Social Media

For the digipak, I used a plain white t-shirt and a denim jacket. The shot in front of the mirror (on the inside cover) uses only the white t-shirt but the rest use the denim jacket- this is because I thought the denim jacket looked a bit overwhelming with the blue jeans and the guitar in that particular shot. The simple outfit matches the general light aesthetic of the music video and doesn't take away from the colour of the post-its and then from the bright graffiti or bright green leaves backdrop.

For the social media page I used more varied outfits with different styles:

Outfit 1: for the pink and blue light pictures, Sergio had brought a navy t-shirt with a pattern of bordeaux diamonds. I thought that it would blend in well with the blue and pink lighting due to the navy-blue and bordeaux colour palette it had, and I am happy with the result.

Outfit 2: For the outdoor photoshoot, I used the denim jacket and the white t-shirt (as I was going to shoot some images for the digipak as well), but I combined them with some camel trousers which I thought went well with the outdoor lieu where we were going to shoot. I wanted to create a warmer look than just blue and white colours as we were shooting in the sunlight with a natural atmosphere, therefore, I was going for a slightly more 'romantic' look of the acoustic artist with his guitar.

Outfit 3: For the social media videos introducing the song I went for the completely rustic outfit. I have already mentioned the setting for those videos with the brown blanket and the giant teddy bear, and the costume matches that vibe: a plaid shirt in blue and red and a green t-shirt with brown trousers. I think this matches well Noah Kahan's style and adds a different style to the aesthetic I am creating which is important for a varied social media page.

Make-Up:

For the make-up, I did not use any make-up on Sergio apart from the fake tears to create continuity from the music video. However, Sara wore some mascara, basic concealer and some lipstick.

We see her apply the make-up on the music video, which is part of the concept of hiding behind a mask, caring too much about appearances, etc. Of course, applying make-up does not always mean this- but in the context of my music video, I think it adds depth to the idea of careful dressing up in front of the mirror, ready to face the day behind false confidence.
