Hi everyone!
I want to dedicate this special post outside the filming and editing process to the song I have chosen and to its meaning. For me, the most important thing about any project that involves so much hard work is to be passionate about it.
Back when I was selecting my song, I was tempted to do a standard music video that involved lip-singing, a nice aesthetic, varied settings and nice transitions; however, I realised I was passionate about my idea for the Noah Kahan song, even though it was more complicated to put together.
In this post, I will run through my idea and how I have tried to put bring this idea to life.
Hope you enjoy this post!
xx Natalia
Being Yourself in Your Teenage Years:
As cheesy as this topic may sound, I find it very important that in a world dominated by superficial appearances and the public persona in social media we don't forget the real beauty and power of being ourselves.
These unattainable beauty standards and edited lifestyles are blurring the line between reality and fiction, and more importantly, they are hiding the many ways in which people can be real, fun beautiful, strong, brave, etc. There is not one only type of beautiful body, perfect personality or lifestyle, even though it might seem that way from the other side of the screen; I find it a real tragedy when someone feels like they have to adjust their looks, personality, etc. to fit into an unrealistic and unattainable life.
Therefore, at the core of my music video is the scary, exhausting and liberating process of finding the courage to be yourself, and realising that there are as many right ways to live as there are people in the world.

You Can Be Your Worst Enemy:
Another important lesson from my teenage years has been how we consider certain beliefs to be absolute truths, without ever questioning them or realising they are wrong and harmful. Real maturity and growth comes from introspection and being able to a) realise that our thoughts can be challenged. always. And b) having the courage to challenge those harmful patterns either on our own or with external help.
Therefore, my music video has one only character who goes through an emotional journey of self-growth. She starts by feeling comfortable in her pattern of wearing false confidence each day (represented by the post-its) and behaving in exactly that way. Then, she starts becoming weary and tired of the pretence until, in the climax of the song, we see a separation between her and her reflection.
The dichotomy between the girl and her reflection represents how sometimes our behaviour patterns drive us one way and our inner feelings, sometimes in the subconscious, drive us another way. Therefore, in the climax of the music video, the camera goes through both sides of the mirror, exploring the inner psyche and realising there is a problem that needs to be solved. Once the girl decides to break- literally (:- the behaviour pattern, she is once more reunited with her image in the mirror and moves on into a new chapter of her life, being herself.

I have been very motivated throughout the project because this music video means more to me than being just a school project. This has led to me trying to perfect every detail (within reason), encountering difficulties and finding the way to figure out a way forward; also, the fact that I love media and editing have made this more fun than I expected, and I am extremely happy and grateful for having had the opportunity to go forward with my idea and bring it to life.
Stay tuned to see more of the footage and project!
