Hi everyone!

I chose the two music videos with the mindset that I was going to use the son "I Miss You" for my music video. Therefore, this time I am going to analyse some of the features of music videos from which I want to take inspiration for my music video, now that I know I am going to use the song "False Confidence".

Hope you enjoy these new ideas!

Lighthouse- Georgia Ku

The concept of this music video is rather abstract and symbolic, expressed through both choreography and the actual editing and making of the music video. Georgia Ku talks about being the "lighthouse" for a friend or lover when they are feeling lost.

Editing Inspiration:

There is continuous cross-cutting between the man and the woman. As the choreography is similar/symmetrical, there is wide use of graphic cuts which conveys the connection between both characters even though they are not in the same space. They are both dancing in the same settings- just not at the same time. However, there is a certain type of shot in the bathroom where they are both dancing at the same time and place- one in the reflection and the other one in the actual bathroom.

I am going to research how to edit this in Premiere Pro (as I have seen this sort of editing done before) and probably use it in my music video to portray how my character's reflection shows either her fears or her true thoughts...

Furthermore, I also really like this editing technique where the two clearly distinct parallel shots are being interlinked with each other. I would like to do something similar in the montage that I am planning for the second verse- in order to make it more dynamic and original.

Mess It Up- Gracie Abrahams

I personally love this music video in how it achieves the portrayal of the message with such a simple concept as baking a pie- I think it is very creative and 'minimalistic' in the sense that it transmits a lot with relatively little. In a way, that is what I would like to achieve with my music video.

Repeating a pattern of negative habits:

In this music video, the artist represents how she is making a pie and only when changing the way of making it does she actually succeed- she changes a negative habit that she has been practising for the whole of the music video. In my music video for "False Confidence" I am planning on following a similar concept (see the post about the song selection) although with a 'deeper' dimension to its meaning.

In order to portray how she is stuck inside a routine or a cycle, there are some shots that keep repeating themselves throughout. Furthermore, the shot length decreases as the song progresses to convey the passage of more and more time. As this is a similar concept to what I had in mind, I will establish certain shots which will repeat themselves to successfully convey that sense of routine.

Moreover, when she finally achieves her goal, it is nighttime (even though most of the music video was conducted during daylight). This conveys how she invested a lot of time and effort in baking that pie, which has a deeper meaning of the effort she would be willing to put in the relationship should her lover give her a second chance. However, I like this idea of the different times of day emphasising that something has meaningfully changed and plan to implement it in my own work.
