Hi everyone!
Last Saturday was my second day of filming, I had to finish filming the second chorus and a couple more shots for the ending. On Sunday I also refilmed some shots that I did not like when it came to the editing, such as that of the post-its falling and a fill shot of a post-it breaking (symbolic).
Here is a summary of how it went and where I am now; hope you like this post!
xx Natalia
Filming on Saturday:
I tried to wait for the Sun to come out, but it became obvious that it wouldn't so I met with my actress and hoped it wouldn't rain. When driving back to my part of town we came across a street with very nice views and I asked my dad to stop there so we could film the "sightseer" scene, as the views and rocks contributed to that touristy/explorer feel.
I was very glad to have filmed extra shots that were not on the plan (learning from previous mistakes) when I came to edit the scene, as I realised I made a slight mistake:
The first shot panned to the left as the girl looked in that direction
The second shot started as a still shot- not following the movement and hence the transition did not look smooth and I had to find another way around it.
Therefore, I used an intermediate shot and cut using match/graphic cuts:
The first shot ended with the girl looking to the left with binoculars
The second shot started with a LS of that same action and finished with the girl walking left
The third shot started with the girl walking left in another part of the location; as she was also walking and a similar size on the frame, these two also looked smooth.
Using cuts in action and joining similar actions together, where the cut was from CU to LS or two MS doing the same thing in the same direction, I was able to fix this little problem when editing, all thanks to that extra footage.
(A piece of extra footage I used below):
Then, I filmed the transition using the sky, trying to tilt up at the same speed as my actress looked up with the binoculars, and for the next shots, we filmed in another location. I did some test shots until I was happy with the angle, which was also very useful and a benefit of having more time and we were also able to practice the transition into the next shot.
Filming on Sunday:
On Sunday, I edited all the footage I filmed on Saturday and realised there were some shots I wanted to refilm, so on Sunday afternoon, I took the opportunity to refilm them using the camera's tripod.
The slo-mo post-its shot was very hard to film because the Canon 750D couldn't film in 60fps, and because the light created shadows very easily on the wall, hence my hands were visible on the shot and it did not look good.
To fix this, we got a ladder and my mum helped me drop the post-its; with the height avoiding the shadows being visible on the shot. When editing, I joined two clips together to avoid slowing down too much the speed, as it was filmed at 25 fps.
The other major difficulty when refilming a couple of shots was leaving the paper with the list and the post-it in the same place to create that clip-art style shots. However, I left another paper below to leave it in the exact same place.
